AEROSMITH: Istanbul Concert Canceled Due To Turkish Mine Disaster

American rockers AEROSMITH have canceled tonight's concert at the İstanbul Technical University (İTÜ) Stadium in İstanbul after Turkey declared a three-day mourning for the victims of Tuesday's coal mine disaster in Soma.

"I woke up this morning to the horrific news of the mining disaster in Soma," AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler said in a statement.

"My heartfelt prayers go out to those who have died, those who are still trapped and their families. We are holding the people of Turkey close to our hearts and respecting the three days of mourning for a saddened nation."

Added AEROSMITH guitariast Joe Perry: "I feel profound sorrow for the workers and their families who have been killed or injured in this terrible disaster.

"As soon as I heard the news, I called my wife in America and me and my family's hearts and prayers go out to the families and workers who were killed or injured. Words can't express the sorrow that we feel."

AEROSMITH bassist Tom Hamilton said: "All of the members of AEROSMITH are saddened by the loss of the miners in Soma. Our thoughts will be with the families of those killed and injured. We will hope for the survival of as many of the trapped miners as possible."

At least 238 coal miners died and the fate of an estimated 120 miners remained unclear in what has been described as one of Turkey's worst mining disasters.

AEROSMITH was scheduled to perform its first-ever concert in Turkey Wednesday night as the kick-off show of its current world tour.

AEROSMITH released its first set of all-original material in 11 years, "Music From Another Dimension!", in 2012, and toured for much of the year after its release.
